We’ve had an exciting week filled with special projects and visitors! We continued our exploration of Eric Carle by reading 10 Little Rubber Ducks and The Mixed Up Chameleon. We made our own ducks, using yellow crepe paper and heavy card stock. We also made our own boxes of rubber ducks, which allowed us to practice using scissors and glue, as well as counting. We even turned ourselves into chameleons! Using party favors with Velcro on the ends and felt “flies, we scurried around the room catching flies!
Our Artist in Residence, Elaine, brought us another exciting project. This week, each child collaged a bird using feathers, tissue paper, and magazine pictures. Elaine will string these together to make a hanging sculpture for our stairwell. In other exciting news, we took our first field trip on Thursday! With the help of some parent chaperones and our parent helper, the Tugboats packed up our snacks and water bottles and headed to the Post Office! We rode the blue line from Airport to Maverick and walked to the Maverick Square Post Office where we learned how mail and packages are processed and shipped. Each child came prepared with a postcard addressed to a friend or relative and Tom, our Postman, let us postmark our own mail!
