HCS is officially OPEN!

HOORAY! The last piece of paper has been acquired and we are now fully licensed to welcome students tomorrow, 9/7/2011! Tonight, enrolled children and parents will meet with Ms. Carissa and Mr. Peter for an introduction to our beautiful classroom, to meet our very active Charles River shrimp population (in a tank) and to take a practice run on circle time.

If you’d like to visit the school, contact carissa@harborcitykids.org. You can also learn more about us at the ZUMIX Harvest Festival this weekend at Pier’s Park.

Back-to-School Lunch Tips

As teachers and families alike prepare for the back-to-school rush, I found this wonderful article with 5 simple tips for packing lunches that are good for kids and the environment too!

Check out this article for some great suggestions for those soon-to-be-filled lunchboxes.  I’m looking forward to enjoying snacks and meals with your preschoolers very soon!

A Place to Play

Last night, we were proud to debut our classroom at Harbor City School to a group of families!  Quite a few folks came out to see the space, including some new faces, enjoy each other’s company, and to watch their children play.

It was so gratifying to see children playing in the space!  In using an emergent curriculum, our aim is to create an environment that promotes play and exploration, which naturally lend themselves to educational experiences.  Last night, we saw first hand that we are well on our way to accomplishing that goal.  Check out our Wishlist page to see how you can help us get all the way there!

Classroom Update and Walk-Through

I am so excited to share some photos of the early development of our classroom here at Harbor City School!  With the help of some friends, the curriculum team assembled in the space this weekend to set up the classroom.  It was amazing to see our plans come to life!

As we move through the final stages of our build-out, everyone here at HCS is looking forward to opening our doors to students.  It’s so close we can taste it!

Please join us next Monday, August 8th for a walk-through and Question/Answer session with Carissa.  Feel free to drop-in between 6 and 8 PM and if you know anyone who is shopping for a preschool, bring them along!
